This really got emotional for me. Because sometimes I have the resources to treat my illness out of pocket and sometimes I don't. And I just lay there and suffer and rest until I'm well enough to work. It's affected my career, my quality of life, every aspect of my life hinges on my health issue. I paid into the health insurance system for 11 years. Then when I needed it, they caught me in a loophole.
And my life is worse for it. I'm grateful that I can do something about it sometimes, but around the next corner is always the possibility that I'm going to have to start from scratch again next month if I get sick.
I'm a capitalist - a compassionate one, sure, but I think that most people are. We have socialized security, fire protection, and education. How would adding health care to that bring the demise of Western Civilization?
