Why do I use Twitter?

A simple question with no easy answer

Ann Handley of MarktingProfs asks (via Twitter, of course) a simple question: "Why do you use Twitter?"  Here's my not-as-simple answer:

I'm a software entrepreneur. I started using Twitter just because it was there and I wanted to understand what it was. But in doing so, I've come to realize that it is an important part of our rapidly changing information landscape. It is part of the ongoing communication technology evolution. Like technologies before it—mail, telegraph, radio, telehone, TV, overnight delivery, fax, e-mail, www, RSS, etc.—Twitter is creating countless new value propositions. There is no one reason why it is important, but it is very important.

RE: Why do I use Twitter?

I use Twitter to offer another dimension of myself

People who meet me in person know I'm much quieter than I appear onscreen. People I know in business tend to bond with me over humor. Twitter lets me show more of my inner voice without a major time investment.

From a business standpoint, folks who stay subscribed like me, and those folks who like me are more likely to click, subscribe or buy. I love being able to leverage my influence to help people. I love being able to communicate freely without giving away my private data.

I use Twitter because it ROCKS.
